Third Eye Blind’s 1997 debut album was a huge success, and it spawned a lot of hits. The biggest was their first single released, Semi-Charmed Life. It was #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts for eight weeks, and it’s their only #1 hit on any chart to this day. Runaway Train was Soul Asylum’s biggest hit. It was a top five hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 charts (#5) and the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts (#3) in 1993. My problem with this song was that radio played it so much, that to this day, it’s hard for me to listen to the whole song without getting tired of it. I loved it when it first came out, and it’s still a good song, but it’s a perfect example of radio killing a song. Enjoy!

1996’s One Headlight was The Wallflowers’ first and only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts. Amazingly, the song didn’t even chart on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. This song is considered to be one of the best rock songs from the 90’s. Enjoy!

Santa Monica was Everclear’s first and only song to top the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. It did so for three weeks back in 1995. This song is actually about lead singer, Art Alexakis, attempting to commit suicide when he was living in Santa Monica, California. Enjoy!
