November Rain by Guns N’ Roses is one of my favorite songs by the band. It’s also a great video featuring Axl’s then-girlfriend, Stephanie Seymour. It’s one of the most expensive music videos ever made coming in at over $1.5 million and it won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography. It’s from their 1991 album, Use Your Illusion I. It’s much more dramatic that most of the Guns N’ Roses videos before it. Some things to notice in the video. The song was co-written by guitarist Izzy Stradlin, but he failed to show up for the taping, so you’ll see Axl holding a poster at one point that says, “Where’s Izzy?”. Also, at one point, Axl is wearing a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap, which is his way of poking fun at the city where he jumped into the crowd at a concert and attacked a fan and incited a riot.
The late Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon’s lead singer) was featured in the video and sang back-up on a lot of the songs from Guns N’ Roses’ Use You Illusion I and II CD’s. Finally, you’ll recognize his wife in real life, Stephanie Seymore, in the video as well. Enjoy!
