RATT – Nobody Rides For Free

Posted in 1991, Glam Rock, Hair Bands, Hard Rock, RATT on December 10, 2008 by pelicancup

Like Poison, the grunge rock movement of the early 90’s all but exterminated RATT. In 1991, they contributed this song, Nobody Rides For Free, to the soundtrack for the action flick Point Break starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Unfortunately, the video and song didn’t receive much airplay on MTV or the radio due to the popularity of grunge rock.

This was RATT’s first single released without the late Robbin Crosby on guitar. Robbin had been kicked out of the band due to his drug abuse problems. They didn’t release another single until 1997 when they released the song Hold Tight from their compilation album Collage. Enjoy!

Firehouse – Love Of A Lifetime

Posted in 1991, Firehouse, Glam Rock, Hair Bands, Heavy Metal, Love Songs, Rock Ballads on October 31, 2007 by pelicancup

Firehouse’s biggest hit was their 1991 glam rock ballad called Love Of A Lifetime. They came on to the scene just as grunge was taking over, so they weren’t able to enjoy their success for very long, but this song is on about every “love songs” CD out there, so they’re not hurting. Enjoy!

Great White – Call It Rock & Roll

Posted in 1991, Glam Rock, Great White, Hair Bands, Heavy Metal on September 7, 2007 by pelicancup

In 1991, Great White released their 4th full length studio album titled Hooked. While none of the songs charted on any of the singles charts, Call It Rock & Roll was a good song and would have definitely charted if not for the grunge revolution. Enjoy!

Mr. Big – To Be With You

Posted in #1 Billboard Hot 100, 1991, Glam Rock, Mr. Big on August 27, 2007 by pelicancup

In 1991, Mr. Big released their album, Lean Into It. The last song on the album was this song, To Be With You. It went unnoticed for almost a year until a Nebraska disc jockey put it into his station’s rotation. After a flood of calls, the song picked up steam and eventually hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and stayed there for 3 weeks. Not bad for a single that wasn’t supposed to be “Big” (pun intended). Enjoy!

Warrant – Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Posted in 1991, Glam Rock, Hair Bands, Warrant on July 14, 2007 by pelicancup

Even though Warrant fell victim to the Seattle grunge scene in the early 90’s, they still put together some decent music on their last few albums. This song, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, was actually a pretty deep song for a hair band. Sadly, by the time this single was released in 1991, their record label was too busy promoting Alice in Chains to give them much of a look, and the single stalled out at #78 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Enjoy!

Poison – Ride The Wind

Posted in 1991, Arena Rock, Glam Rock, Hair Bands, Poison on July 12, 2007 by pelicancup

Poison was one hair band that was still enjoying success at the beginning of the 90’s, and they released Ride the Wind as a single in 1991. The video features footage from their concerts, which were absolutely a blast. Say what you will about their music being shallow and basic, but they put on one helluva great show, which is what we all go to a rock concert for in the first place….to be entertained, right? Frankly, I wish bands would get back to this concept and would quit trying to save the world with their music. Okay, enough of my soapbox. Enjoy the video!
